Chesterfield recovered from a goal down to claim a point in Saturday’s League Two fixture, playing out a 1-1 draw with Fleetwood Town at the SMH Group Stadium.

Will Davies headed home to give Fleetwood an early lead; one which would later be cancelled out by Dilan Markanday.

The Spireites came into a third straight home game looking to make it consecutive win number three, having previously recorded shut-out victories over Salford City and Burton Albion in the league and Vertu Trophy respectively.

A pair of clean sheets came as a welcome relief following a 6-2 hammering at Colchester United, and Paul Cook’s side would be looking to continue that solidity despite the loss of both full-back Vontae Daley-Campbell and defensive midfielder Tom Naylor to suspension.

But Cook, also absent from the touchline through a ban, would see any hope of another to-nil scoreline evaporate inside seven minutes as Davies rose to meet a corner and nod the visitors in front.

Midway through the first half things were all level again though as some neat play down the Blues’ left eventually allowed Ryan Stirk to tee up Markanday, who drifted in off the opposite flank to finish off a fine move.

And the same man almost completed the turnaround just before the break, only to see his curling effort blocked by a Cod Army defender.

Once play resumed after the interval the hosts continued to grow their control over the flow of the contest, though it was probably they who survived the second half’s biggest scare.

Davies looked likely to make it a brace as he went racing through one-on-one, but would ultimately be denied by the outstretched hand of Zach Hemming as he went to round the home stopper.

At the other end, meanwhile, substitute Ronan Darcy probably had the clearest chance as he found space on the edge of the area and forced Jay Lynch into a diving save.

And 1-1 it would indeed remain, meaning Chesterfield will have the chance to make it four unbeaten in all competitions when they travel to take on Tranmere Rovers next weekend.
