His late goal earned him a place in the National League North Team of the Week.

Jordan Broadbent

Reflecting on the game, Broadbent said:

“I think that’s what this group have demonstrated through the course of pre-season and last week, to have that resilience mentally and physically in the latter part of games, to be able to come back and score and get something out of the game, is a real positive for the group.

I think what we are showing is that we have strength and depth. If we are going to do anything this season, it’s not going to be an eleven that gets us to where we want to get to, it’s going to be a squad that gets us there.

And everyone has contributed at the minute, and as a manager, it’s a really positive thing that we are getting.”

Opposition Facts

Founded in 1908, Bedford Town were dissolved in 1982 before being reformed seven years later in 1989.

Nicknamed The Eagles, they play their home games at The New Eyrie, which has a capacity of over 3,000.

The home side are led by Harry Smart, who took charge this summer after Lee Bircham stepped down. Smart was previously the assistant manager at the club and, at 28 years old, is one of the youngest managers in England.

Last season, Bedford finished 18th on 53 points in the National League North, staying up by just one point.

Historically, their best FA Trophy run came in 1975, when they reached the semi-final before being defeated by Scarborough Athletic.

This season, their home kit is blue, while their away kit is yellow. Their third kit features a map of the town.

So far this season, Bedford have lost both of their opening games. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Oxford City before losing 3-2 to Darlington.

Interestingly, Bedford has two football teams, with Real Bedford FC playing across the road from Bedford Town.

One To Watch – George Moncur

George Moncur is an experienced midfielder who came through the academies at Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, following in the footsteps of his father, former West Ham midfielder John Moncur.

He made his professional debut in 2012 during a loan spell with AFC Wimbledon, before making two senior appearances for West Ham. He later went on to play for Partick Thistle, Colchester United, Barnsley, Peterborough United, Luton Town, Hull City and Leyton Orient.

Moncur joined Bedford Town in February 2026, signing for the National League North side on an initial one-month loan deal. He made 15 appearances and scored three goals during his spell before returning to the club permanently this summer on a one-year deal.

Head-to-Head

Both games between these two sides last season ended in a 3-0 victory for the home side.

Last time out, two goals from Johnny Johnston and a goal from Ashton Mee secured a win at the Silverlands against nine-man Bedford.

However, at The Eyrie, Tyrone Marsh scored a double and Sam Brown also found the net to pick up all three points in November last year.
