Alfreton Town’s FA Cup journey came to a disappointing end on Saturday as they were beaten 3–0 away at Spalding United in the second qualifying round.
The home side were on the front foot from the start and were rewarded shortly before the break. Bart Cybulski struck in the 38th minute to give Spalding the lead, and the forward doubled his tally just seven minutes later, leaving Alfreton with a mountain to climb at half-time.
Despite some brighter spells in the second half, Alfreton never truly threatened to overturn the deficit. Their attacking play lacked sharpness and the hosts remained organised and disciplined at the back.
Any faint hopes of a comeback were ended deep into stoppage time when Jordan Nicholson added a third goal for Spalding, sparking jubilant celebrations from the home supporters.
The result means Alfreton exit the competition earlier than they would have hoped, while Spalding march on confidently into the next round after a commanding display.
