A teenager has pleaded guilty to the murder of his stepfather at their home in Shirebrook.
Armed officers attended the house in Valley Road, Shirebrook, following the call to the force at 8.45pm on Wednesday 22 October 2025 and arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
The victim of the assault, 57-year-old Christopher Owen of Valley Road, Shirebrook, was found to have suffered a number of stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Also found deceased at the scene was a Jack Russell dog that had also suffered stab wounds.
Logan Procter was charged with the murder of Mr Owen – as well as causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal in relation to the death of the dog and was remanded in prison. However, the charge relating to the killing of the dog has been subsumed into the murder charge.
The 19-year-old appeared at Derby Crown Court today (16 January) where he pleaded guilty to the murder of Mr Owen.
He was remanded to prison and will appear at Derby Crown Court on 16 March.
