NDR SPORT PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS LOCAL ROUNDUP
Matlock rower Oli Wilkes won a bronze medal in the men’s four event. The Team GB crew recovered
superbly from a sluggish start to pick their way through the field and finish third in the final in front
of a raucous crowd.

North Derbyshire Radio’s Senior Sports Editor Matthew Rhodes spoke to Oli following his Paris success

Buxton swimmer Abbie Wood performed well in her two events and came close to securing a medal.
She finished fifth in the final of the women’s 200m individual medley and was also part of the British
team that finished fifth in the final of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay event.
Alfreton swimmer Jacob Whittle was part of the British team that finished fifth in the final of the
men’s 4x100m freestyle relay event. He also competed individually in the men’s 100m freestyle event
but, unfortunately, didn’t advance past the heats.
Chesterfield swimmer Joe Litchfield narrowly missed out on a medal in the final of the men’s 4x100m
medley relay with a fourth place finish. Joe was also part of the British team that finished seventh in
the final of the mixed 4x100m medley relay event.
Belper’s Hollie Pearne-Webb captained Team GB’s women’s hockey side at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The team reached the quarter-finals of the tournament before being defeated 3-1 by eventual gold
medallists The Netherlands.
Former North Derbyshire Radio Friday Night Sports Show guest Anna Toman also featured heavily in
the British women’s hockey side and played a big part in Team GB’s qualification from the group
stage.
Chesterfield table tennis star Liam Pitchford reached the Round of 32 stage in the men’s singles
tournament. He breezed past Fiji’s Vicky Wu 4-0 in the Round of 64 before losing 4-2 to Slovenia’s
Darko Jorgic in the Round of 32.
