Morecambe secured a commanding 4–0 victory over Buxton, pulling away in ruthless fashion in the second half.
Both sides showed early intent, Buxton in particular settling quickly and moving the ball with confidence as they looked to impose themselves on the contest.
Starting on the front foot, the Bucks worked the ball neatly through midfield, with new signing Devlan Moses holding off his man before slipping Kian Scales through after a slip from Liam Hogan. Scales’ low effort looked destined for the corner, but Myles Boney reacted sharply to push it away.
During the eighth minute, Morecambe carved out their first sight of goal. Jake Cain’s strike from distance took a deflection and flew behind for a corner, from which Hogan rose highest but headed wide.
Soon afterwards, Hogan found himself unmarked again from another corner, yet the outcome was the same as he nodded off target.
Following that spell, Buxton responded with a corner of their own. A scramble ensued, with several efforts blocked by a resolute Shrimps defence who refused to yield.
Next to threaten was Paul Lewis, whose swinging delivery into the box narrowly evaded Will Smith as Buxton continued to probe for an opener.
Continuing the theme, set pieces remained central to the contest. Buxton delivered another dangerous corner into the area, only for Myles Boney to punch clear under pressure.
Just before the break, the visitors thought they had taken the lead when George Cooper bundled the ball home, but the referee ruled it out for a foul in the build-up.
Morecambe finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute. The ball fell kindly to Matty Daly on the edge of the area and he lashed a superb strike into the far corner to make it 1–0.
Approaching the hour mark, Daly almost added another, dragging his shot wide after a well-worked passing move that carved Buxton open.
Later in the 63rd minute, Morecambe doubled their advantage. A Johnny Johnston corner was cleared and, after winning a free kick which they took quickly, Elliott Newby fired past Logan Stretch at his near post.
Meanwhile, it could have been a third moments later when the ball was worked out wide to Lewis Leigh, but Stretch raced out to sweep up.
Leigh then went close again, firing over from a free kick that Teddy Collis won just outside the area.
Capitalising on a mistake, Buxton were handed a golden chance to respond when Boney misplaced his pass while playing out, gifting possession to Sisa Tuntulwana. His attempted chip drifted wide, letting Morecambe off the hook.
Executing a clever free kick routine in the 78th minute, the hosts added their third. A Cain cross was flicked into the path of Daly, who volleyed home his second of the afternoon.
Finally, Isaac Buckley Ricketts wrapped up the scoring late on, cutting inside and curling a precise finish into the bottom right corner to seal a comprehensive 4–0 win.
The Bucks now face Brackley Town at home on Tuesday as they look to get back to winning ways.
