Buxton left it late once again to claim a 2-1 victory over Peterborough Sports at PIMS Park.

The home side took the lead inside the opening minute, making a dream start. With just 59 seconds on the clock, Ben Beresford latched onto a through ball from Max Booth and slotted past Paul Cooper to make it 1-0.

However, Buxton responded quickly and levelled in the tenth minute. Luke Brennan’s cross caused chaos in the box, and after a scramble, the ball eventually fell to Louis Stephenson, who fired home the equaliser.

That goal gave the Bucks confidence as they began to grow into the game, with Tate Campbell forcing Peter Crook into a sharp save soon after.

Peterborough then fashioned a good opportunity of their own when Dan Jarvis broke through on goal, only to be denied by the quick reactions of Cooper who saved with his feet.

Campbell continued to look dangerous for the visitors, hitting a first-time effort that required another strong stop from Crook to turn it behind for a corner.

Before the interval, Peterborough came close again when Straughan-Brown struck the woodwork following a rebound, keeping the scores level at the break.

Captain Connor Kirby had the first sight of goal in the second half, glancing a free header from a corner narrowly wide of the far post.

A series of corners for The Bucks in the early stages of the half kept the pressure on, and Campbell almost found the net when his powerful header was tipped over the bar.

Straughan-Brown continued to be a threat, and in the 65th minute, his cross found Elliott Whitehouse  in the box, but the header was comfortably gathered by Cooper.

As full-time approached, substitute Johnny Johnston nearly snatched the winner when his low strike towards the bottom corner was well saved by Crook.

But Buxton weren’t to be denied, and it was their captain who stepped up in the dying moments, Kirby hitting a superb free-kick from distance into the back of the net to seal a dramatic 2-1 victory.
