National League North Report: Five star Buxton with victory over Radcliffe

Buxton put in a five star performance to defeat Radcliffe 5-1 at The Neuven Stadium.

Early on, the away side started on the front foot with a passing move that led to Tai Sodje’s close range effort going just wide.

Moments later, the home side’s first chance of the game fell to Jon Taylor, with his free-kick forcing Joe Young into a low save.

Soon after, a well worked corner routine from Luke Brennan found Zac Gilsenan in the ninth minute before being deflected out.

Radcliffe then took the lead four minutes later as Michael Afuye ran into the box and put the ball along the floor, finding Rio Clegg to fire in for 1-0.

At the other end, Johnston ran through the middle and his effort looking for the bottom left corner was blocked away by the sliding Brad Roscoe.

Just before the break, Buxton got back level when Sammy Robinson won the ball back and his inch perfect cross found Brennan, whose first time finish made it 1-1 at half time.

After the restart, Buxton took the lead in the 52nd minute with Sodje holding the ball up before it fell to Zac Gilsenan, who was able to get a shot under the keeper for 2-1.

Further pressure told 12 minutes later as Brennan’s corner found defender Kieran Burton, who overhead kicked it to make it 3-1.

Radcliffe almost got a goal back when former Buck Roscoe hit the underside of the bar from a corner kick.

The fourth goal came in the 85th minute from another overhead kick, this time Connor Douglas found Tai Sodje, who acrobatically got the ball into the net.

Douglas then turned goalscorer after a well worked team move fell to the substitute and he finished it off make it 5-1.
