Jordan Broadbent
Reflecting on the game against Merthyr Town, Broadbent said:
“I think we have beaten a very good side today, a side that’s going to take a lot of points off of a lot of teams this season. Same as Oxford on Friday I think we have beaten two really good teams across the bank holiday weekend.
Broadbent added: “We weren’t at our best today and what I’ve just said to the group inside is we’ve won a game when we weren’t at our best and as a manager that’s a really pleasing sign.”
Opposition Facts
Founded in 1920, the club never experienced relegation until 2023 and have since gone down the divisions.
Their highest-ever finish was in the 2021-22 season, when they finished 19th in League One.
They have reached the Third Round of the FA Cup seven times in their history and most recently did so in the 2024-25 season.
In the EFL Trophy, they reached the final in the 2007-08 season.
And in the FA Trophy, they were winners in 1974 when they beat Dartford 2-1 in the final.
Nicknamed The Shrimps, they play their home games at Halo Aerospace Stadium, which has a capacity of over 6,476, 2,247 of which are seated.
The home side are led by Adam Lakeland, who has lots of experience at this level, having previously been in charge of Farsley Celtic, Curzon Ashton and Kings Lynn. He then went on to manage Halifax Town before coming to the Shrimps this summer.
Former manager Jim Bentley remains within the club, helping to assist with both footballing and non-footballing areas. Bentley spent eight years in charge of the side between 2011 and 2019. As a player, he also made over 300 appearances for the club.
Last season, they finished 22nd in the National League and were relegated with 38 points.
This season, their home kit is red and black, their away kit is yellow and their third kit is white.
So far this season, they have won two games, lost three games and drawn one game.
Most recently, they beat Chester 1-0, with Paul Lewis scoring the only goal in the 52nd minute.
One To Watch: Elliot Newby
Winger Newby joined the club this summer on a two-year deal.
Described as a creative player, Newby has lots of experience in the EFL.
Having come through the Bolton Wanderers academy, he has gone on to feature at Barrow, Altrincham, Telford, Chorley, Stockport County and Halifax.
During two spells with Barrow, he made 175 appearances and scored 26 goals.
FA Cup Matchup
In 2021, Buxton faced up against Morecambe in the Second Round of the FA Cup and lost 1-0 at the Silverlands after a goal from Cole Stockton.
