Jordan Broadbent
Reflecting on the game against Worksop Town, Broadbent said:
“I think the second half we were very good. I thought we defended the box well, and we attacked their box really well, and we had a reaction. So the second half was the positive today.
There’s no getting away from how poor the first half was. It’s not the standard I want at the football club, it’s not the standard we expect at the football club, and we let the boys know that at half‑time. The first half is not acceptable, and we don’t accept that level of performance.”
Opposition facts – Chorley FC

The club was founded in 1875, originally as a rugby union club, and became a football club eight years later.
They adopted the nickname ‘The Magpies’ in the 1890s due to the colours they play in.
Their strongest FA Cup run came in the 2020-21 season, when they beat Championship side Derby County and two League One sides on the way before losing 1–0 to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers after a strike from current PSG player Vitinha.
In the FA Trophy, the club reached the semi-finals in the 1995-96 season, where they lost to Macclesfield on aggregate over two legs.
They play at Victory Park, which has a capacity of 4,300, including 975 seats.
The home side is managed by Andy Preece, who has been in charge since May 2022, following the departure of former Buxton manager Jamie Vermiglio. Preece was previously the club’s director of football. Following a playing career in which he made over 100 appearances for both Blackpool and Bury, he has gone on to gain plenty of experience as a manager, taking charge of over 800 games and winning more than 400. He began his managerial career at Bury before moving on to Worcester City, Northwich Victoria, Airbus UK Broughton, Southport and Pho Hien.
Last season, the Magpies finished 15th in the National League North, collecting 57 points.
In the current five-game form guide, they sit eighth, having accumulated nine points.
Most recently, they lost 1-0 in the FA Cup replay against Worcester City.
In their last league game, they won 2-1 against AFC Telford, with goals from Adam Blackman and Jack Moore.
They are 10th in the league, with 17 points from 11 matches.
Former Bucks
Warren Clarke was part of the Buxton side that won the NPL Premier Division title in 2022 and joined Chorley in the summer of 2024.
Defender Max Hunt joined the Magpies in May after leaving Alfreton Town. He played for The Bucks during the 2023-24 season.
One to watch – Mike Calveley
The 27-year-old Calveley has been a key figure in Chorley’s side over the past six years and has made over 200 appearances in the black-and-white stripes.
Before this, he played for Curzon Ashton. He started his career at Port Vale, where he had loan spells at Leek Town and Nuneaton Borough.
Last season, he scored seven goals in 42 league games and has been made the club’s captain this season.
Head to head
Over the last five meetings, Buxton have a very good record, with four wins and just one defeat.
The most recent meeting came in March, when Buxton won 2-1 at Victory Park. After the home side took the lead through Jack Sampson, Cian Coleman and Johnny Johnston struck in the second half to secure the points.
