Jordan Broadbent
Reflecting on the game against Marine, Broadbent said:
“Really good game of football, we couldn’t have started the game any better scoring inside a minute.
They come back at us, they had a bit of a flurry to be fair for the twenty minutes after and we weathered the storm and we stayed in the game and we were very good for the second half of the first half.
When a team has to open up against us and chase the goal that’s where we are really dangerous in the front line, we have so much pace in transition and we have demonstrated that on numerous occasions today.”
New signing – Malakai McKenzie
McKenzie joins from National League North rivals Southport FC for an undisclosed fee.
A technically gifted winger, McKenzie began his career with Bolton Wanderers before going on to represent Bury, Chorley, Dalvík/Reynir in Iceland, FC Malaga Academy and Avro FC.
He joined Southport ahead of the 2025-26 season and now makes the move from the Sandgrounders.
Opposition facts – Scarborough Athletic
The club was founded in 2007 as a phoenix club following the winding up of Scarborough FC.
Known by the nicknames The Seadogs, their badge features a seagull perched on top of a football, with a banner running through it displaying the motto No Battle No Victory.
Their strongest FA Cup runs came in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, when they reached the first round of the competition.
The first time, they were beaten by Forest Green Rovers before suffering another first-round exit the following season against Burton Albion.
Earlier this season, they were knocked out by fellow National League North side Macclesfield in a replay after drawing 2-2 in the original tie.
Home matches are played at the Scarborough Sports Village, which has a capacity of 3,252, including 586 seats. Last season, however, they were forced to play at Bridlington Town while work was carried out on their artificial pitch.
Meanwhile, the away side are managed by Jonno Greening, who has overseen 194 games at this level since taking charge in 2021. This is his only managerial role to date and he has averaged 1.4 points per game.
As a player, Greening earned an England call-up without making a senior appearance. He also featured for Manchester United, where he won the Champions League, and made more than 200 appearances for West Bromwich Albion.
Furthermore, their highest-ever finish came in this division last season when they ended the campaign sixth on 73 points before losing to The Bucks in the play-offs.
Currently, they sit 20th in the five-game form table, having collected four points from their last five matches.
Most recently, they suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Morecambe, with both goals coming during the first half.
Overall, they occupy 21st place in the league table, with 15 points from 14 matches.
One to watch – Rio Allan
Leading the club’s scoring charts with nine goals, Allan is a versatile forward capable of operating anywhere across the front line, although he is most commonly deployed on the right wing.
Despite being just 22 years old, he has already built up significant non-league experience. During his time with Doncaster City, he scored 20 goals in 13 appearances, a run that earned him a trial with Stoke City’s Under-21 side, where he also trained alongside the first team.
Having joined The Seadogs ahead of the 2025/26 season, the 6ft 1in attacker enjoys taking on full-backs in one-versus-one situations while staying wide and hugging the touchline.
Head to head
In the last five meetings, Buxton have won four games, with Scarborough winning one.
The sides last met in the first play-off qualifier at The Silverlands in May, where Buxton secured a 4-2 victory over Scarborough Athletic. Cian Coleman and Luke Brennan put the Bucks 2-0 ahead before Stephen Walker pulled one back for the Seadogs. Coleman then grabbed his second of the game and Ashton Mee also found the net to put Buxton in control, with Harry Green’s late strike proving only a consolation for the visitors.
