Last gasp Chesterfield grab draw against Barnet

Barnet’s unbeaten start to the season continued as Chesterfield battled back twice to earn a point in a dramatic six-goal thriller.

The Bees took the lead just before the half-hour mark when a short corner found Tom Knowles in space on the edge of the penalty area. He made no mistake, curling a superb effort into the top-left corner.

Barnet had the chance to extend their advantage when Charlie Lakin was presented with an opportunity, but he was unable to convert.

Chesterfield responded in style in the 39th minute as Louie Marsh produced a superb volley to bring the Spireites level.

Barnet regained the lead deep into first-half stoppage time when Knowles delivered into the area, with Zac Williams rising to head home and put the visitors back in front.

Chesterfield refused to give up and found another equaliser in the 71st minute. Marsh reacted quickest to a rebound, calmly slotting the ball into an empty net to make it 2-2.

The visitors looked to have secured all three points when Kabongo Tshimanga struck in the 88th minute.

However, Chesterfield produced a dramatic late response.

Making his debut, Joel Randall became an instant Spireites hero, finding the net in stoppage time to rescue a point and complete a remarkable six-goal contest.

The result means Barnet’s unbeaten run remains intact, while Chesterfield showed plenty of character to come from behind three times.
