Southport defeated Buxton 3-2 in the FA Trophy to progress through to the third round.
Early on, Luke Brennan created the first opportunity for The Bucks after 11 minutes when his ball across the box almost found the run of striker Tai Sodje.
Soon after, Southport took the lead following a quick counter attack and a pass from Mo Touray to Malakai McKenzie, who cut inside before curling his effort into the net.
Moments later, Chris Renshaw punched the ball clear and it fell to Brennan, who picked out Burton bursting into the box, but he could not guide his effort on target.
Brennan then went close again as he searched for the equaliser, but his strike was safely gathered by the goalkeeper.
Southport continued to threaten on the counter and Touray’s effort forced Joe Young into a low save.
In the 37th minute, the visitors were awarded a penalty after Will Trueman tripped a player in the box. Young saved the initial attempt, but Danny Lloyd reacted quickest to fire home the rebound.
Buxton halved the deficit in the 55th minute when Sammy Robinson’s cross found the diving head of Sodje to make it 2-1.
Just five minutes later the pair combined once more, Robinson’s delivery finding a leaping Sodje whose header drew the score level.
In the 66th minute, half time substitute Deniche Hill was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Jordan Slew, with Southport being awarded a second penalty. Lloyd stepped up and smashed the ball in for 3-2.
Late on, Robinson tried to force a penalty shootout with a long range strike, but his effort clipped the top of the crossbar.
