Report by North Derbyshire Radio Senior Football Correspondent Ben Smith
Chesterfield managed to halt their winless run at six competitive matches on Tuesday night, defeating 10-man Bromley 3-0 at the SMH Group Stadium.
Goals from Armando Dobra, Ryan Colclough and Paddy Madden secured the Spireites their first victory since December 21 after the visitors’ Omar Sowunmi was dismissed just 23 minutes in.
Following a rather sedate opening quarter, things quickly livened up as Sowunmi was given his marching orders for a lunging challenge on Tom Naylor, an incident which also saw visiting manager Andy Woodman receive a red card for his reaction.
Chesterfield registered their first shot on target soon after as Darren Oldaker did well to work some room on the edge of the area, only to be denied by former Spireites stopper Grant Smith.
It would be Dobra who ultimately broke the deadlock, unleashing a beautiful bending effort from just outside the box which nestled right in the top corner of Smith’s goal.
Those first-half flashpoints put the home side in a commanding position heading into the interval, and their only slight scare came just after the hour as Max Thompson was forced into action by Danny Imray.
A second goal on 82 minutes would put things beyond most reasonable doubt, with Dobra this time turning provider for Colclough, whose outstretched leg managed to guide the ball home via the crossbar.
And there was even time for a third in stoppage time, as Madden applied a classy finish to an equally classy through-ball from fellow substitute John Fleck to make absolutely sure of the points.
Paul Cook’s side will now look to follow up that display when they travel down to Cheltenham Town for one of Saturday’s early kick-offs.
