Chesterfield suffer heavy defeat in Vertu Trophy at Crewe Alexandra

Chesterfield suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat in their opening game of the Vertu Trophy at Crewe Alexandra.

Adam Lewis scored the only goal for Paul Cook’s side who were 4-1 down at half time having seen Emre Tezgel score twice in the 4th and 6th minute before Callum Aguis and Louis Moult scored either side of the Chesterfield goal.

Tezgel completed his hatrick in the second half on 51 minutes then further goals followed from Adrien Thibaut on 57 and then Oliver Armstrong completed the rout finding the net in the 67th minute.

Manager Paul Cook was booked early in the game in what turned out to be a horrible night for his team and the small amount of travelling fans.
