MK Dons 2–2 Chesterfield

Chesterfield showed tremendous resilience to earn a dramatic late point as they drew 2–2 away at MK Dons, with a stoppage-time equaliser capping an eventful afternoon.

The hosts opened the scoring on 29 minutes when Callum Paterson fired a left-footed shot from the centre of the box past the Chesterfield goalkeeper to give MK Dons the lead. Chesterfield battled to regain momentum, but MK Dons doubled their advantage just before the break. On 44 minutes, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy struck from outside the area with a powerful right-footed effort to put the hosts firmly in control at half-time.

Chesterfield responded positively after the interval and were rewarded on 67 minutes when Sam Curtis pulled one back, rising highest to head home from a Liam Mandeville corner and give the Spireites renewed belief. The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, increasing the pressure on the MK Dons defence.

That pressure finally told deep into stoppage time. On 90+4 minutes, Will Grigg was on hand to nod home from close range, sparking celebrations among the travelling Chesterfield supporters and securing a deserved share of the points.

The drama continued after the final whistle, with Chesterfield manager Paul Cook shown a red card following full-time, bringing a fiery end to an absorbing contest.

Chesterfield will take plenty of positives from the performance, particularly their character and refusal to give in, as they fought back from two goals down to claim a memorable away draw.
