Buxton progressed through to the Semi Final of the Derbyshire Senior Challenge Cup after a convincing 4-0 over Belper Town.
After the original postponement due to snow and not many games to start the year The Bucks were able to name a strong starting 11 with four changes from the side that lost to Peterborough Sports at the weekend.
Buxton had the first chance of the game through a Diego De Girolamo shot but he wasn’t quite able to direct it goal-wards.
But it wasn’t long before they did have the lead when Ryan Viggars unleashed a strike in the 17th minute from 25 yards out finding the back of the net for 1-0.
The Nailers then had opportunities with Nathanial Crofts firing over after running through on goal and Louis Keenan dragged his shot from distance wide.
In the 38th minute The Bucks doubled their lead after Tommy Elliott’s cross was deflected into the path of Josh Popoola who was there to fire in to make it 2-0 going into the break.
Both sides made changes at halftime with Sam Tomlinson coming on for Buxton and Mason Warren and Kelan Swales coming on for Belper.
Warren was the first to test True Grant in the second half but his shot was straight into the Manchester City loanees hands.
Just 3 minutes later Luke Brennan delivered an accurate cross that found the head of Tomlinson only for it to go wide.
Tomlinson looked lively and had his second chance of the game when he drove and shot into Kieran Preston’s hands.
Buxton were forced into a defensive action through Kieran Burton when Harry Draper’s strike was deflected behind for a corner.
And it wasn’t long before Sam Tomlinson who was rewarded for his hard working grabbing his first senior goal for Buxton in the 82nd minute. De Girolamo found the 17 year old with a threaded through ball and he calmly slotted it in for 3-0.
He then added his second of the game into added time beating his man on the box and finishing it off into the far corner to confirm Buxton’s place in the Semi Final of the competition.
They will now face Derby County’s under 21’s at The Silverlands.
