Buxton lose at Scarborough

Report by North Derbyshire Radio’s Elliot Steadman

Scarborough struck early as all three goals came inside the opening ten minutes of their 2-1 win over Buxton.

The breakthrough arrived within the first minute, Luca Colville latching onto a loose ball and rifling into the top-left corner.

Just two minutes later, former Buxton defender Jake Hull doubled the lead, his low effort clipping the post before nestling in the net.

Buxton responded quickly in the seventh minute, Oliver Greaves breaking away down the middle before squaring for Luke Brennan to slot home.

Their momentum nearly brought an equaliser soon after, with Tai Sodje rising at the back post and forcing the keeper to tip his header onto the woodwork.

Following the frantic start, the tempo settled and Buxton began to dictate possession.

The visitors almost levelled again when Sammy Robinson glanced a header just wide from a Luke Hall delivery.

At the other end, Scarborough’s leading scorer Stephen Walker went close, his strike from a long ball blocked out.

Buxton started the second half brightly, Hall firing over from close range in the 53rd minute.

As both sides pressed for another goal, the hosts whipped the ball into the box from the left, but Paul Cooper was alert to gather.

The Bucks continued to threaten through a stream of dangerous crosses, though they couldn’t quite capitalise on second balls.

Late drama came when Kieran Burton went down under pressure in the box, but penalty appeals were waved away as the referee blew for full-time.
