Paul Cook’s Chesterfield continued their play off push in League 2 with a dramatic win against Grimsby Town on Tuesday evening.
They took the lead through Liam Mandeville’s goal after a great ball in from Lewis Gordon, the Chesterfield man guided a left footed shot into the bottom right corner on 31 minutes.
Moments later Lee Bonis scored Chesterfield’s second of the game when a fast break saw Sammy Braybrooke play in the striker who fired a right foot shot in the centre of the box into the bottom right corner.
Grimsby replied on 41 minutes through Jaze Kabia’s striker after a great set piece from the visitors with Reece Staunton playing a big part.
It would be Staunton who played a major part in the late drama that followed at the end of the game – The Grimsby man saw a penalty saved by Ryan Boot in the 5th minute of added time at the end of the game after Ryan Stirk was adjudged to have fouled Justin Amaluzor in the box.
Boot dived the right way to preserve the home side’s lead and secure a huge three points in the race for the League 2 play offs.
