Bonis Strike Earns Chesterfield First League Two Win

Lee Bonis scored the only goal as Chesterfield secured their first League Two victory of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Salford.

The decisive moment came after just two minutes when Josh Koroma capitalised on a defensive mistake involving Ollie Turton. His effort was parried by Salford goalkeeper Will Norris, but Bonis was on hand to tap home from close range.

Chesterfield continued to threaten before the break, with Koroma firing over following a quick counter-attack.

Bonis then came close to adding a second after dispossessing Norris 25 yards from goal, but his effort drifted narrowly wide with the goalkeeper stranded.

Three minutes into the second half, Norris produced an excellent diving save to deny a glancing Bonis header from another Koroma cross.

Bonis then fired a free-kick over the bar before Salford went close when Ben Woodburn’s effort struck the base of the post.

The home side pushed for an equaliser late on after making five substitutions, but Chesterfield defended resolutely.

There was a huge scare for the Spireites in stoppage time when Ryan Stirk headed a Salford cross onto his own post, while Daniel Udoh fired wide.

Paul Cook’s side held on to claim a valuable three points and their first League Two win of the campaign.
