As part of a crackdown in Derbyshire, police have confiscated 31 e-scooters that were being ridden illegally

Last month, officers across the county confiscated vehicles from public places.

Derbyshire Police reported that since adopting a “seize first” approach in November 2024, over 700 e-scooters and e-bikes have been taken off public roads and pavements. Riding e-scooters on public roads is illegal unless part of a government-approved hire scheme, and e-bikes that don’t meet legal standards are also banned.

Under the new policy, officers no longer have to give a first-offence warning before seizing illegal vehicles.

Inspector Lee Welsby said the force will stay proactive on the issue, urging people to think twice before buying one.
