Berry Strikes Late as Chesterfield Edge Thriller at Bristol Rovers

Substitute James Berry fired a late winner as Chesterfield secured an entertaining away victory over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium, boosting their promotion push with back-to-back wins on the road.

The Spireites made a flying start and took the lead inside three minutes. Liam Mandeville kept a corner alive with a volleyed cross, and Tom Naylor was left unmarked just yards from goal to head home and give the visitors an early advantage.

Bristol Rovers responded midway through the first half with a goal of their own from a set-piece. After the hosts kept the ball alive from a corner, Kofi Balmer flicked it on and Riley Harbottle headed across goal for Shaq Forde to nod in his first league goal of the season.

The home side then moved ahead shortly after the restart. Substitute Joe Quigley’s knockdown found Forde in space inside the box, and he made no mistake, slotting home his second of the afternoon after 58 minutes.

Chesterfield responded almost immediately. Just three minutes later, Sam Curtis’ deflected cross found Naylor, who rose to loop a header into the far corner to level the scores at 2–2 and set up a dramatic finale.

With 12 minutes remaining, the decisive moment arrived. Curtis delivered a deep cross to the far post where Berry met it with a composed volley, sealing a hard-fought win for the Spireites.

The result keeps Chesterfield eighth in the table and strengthens their promotion hopes as they continue their impressive form away from home.
