National League North Report: Second half goals rescue draw against Worksop for The Bucks

Buxton scored twice in the second half to rescue a point against Worksop Town in a 2-2 draw at The Silverlands.

Worksop struck inside the opening minute, as new signing Mason Bennett latched onto a ball over the top, broke clear of the defence and calmly slotted past Logan Stretch to give the visitors an early lead.

Ashton Mee tried to respond with a long‑range effort that drifted wide.

But Worksop doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Mason O’Malley’s deep free‑kick found Vaughan Redford, whose diving header looped across goal and into the net.

Sisa Tuntulwana looked to get Buxton back in the game with a whipped teasing ball across the box, forcing Worksop to clear behind before it reached Max Woltman arriving at the back post.

Aleksandrs Starcenko then combined with Bennett again, though the midfielder’s strike from the edge of the area flew over Stretch’s bar.

Chances were limited for both sides, with Josh Wilde having the next after connecting acrobatically with a swinging delivery but failing to keep his effort down, while former Buck Oliver Greaves volleyed straight into Stretch’s gloves.

Five minutes into the second half, Worksop almost added a third, as Stretch parried a cross from Starcenko and the loose ball fell to Liam Waldock, whose shot was cleared off the line by Finn Cousin‑Dawson.

Buxton finally found a foothold in the 59th minute, after a Woltman corner was met by the powerful head of captain Kieran Burton, halving the deficit and lifting the home crowd.

The equaliser arrived soon after, when a long throw from Tuntulwana dropped to Devlan Moses, who turned sharply and smashed his finish inside the near post to make it 2–2.

Controversy briefly halted the game, as Tony Weston was shown a second yellow card, only for the referee to overturn the decision after consulting his assistant.

Worksop pushed again, with Greaves breaking down the right and picking out Bennett, whose low effort forced Stretch into a full‑stretch save.

Set‑pieces remained a threat, and O’Malley’s corner found Wilde once more, this time his header cannoning off the woodwork before bouncing behind.

Late pressure belonged to the visitors, as Waldock drilled a ball across the face of goal with Greaves inches away from turning it in at the back post.

The final opening of the afternoon also fell to Worksop, when Waldock’s corner was met by Deegan Atherton, but his header sailed just over the bar.
