Jordan Broadbent

Reflecting on the game against South Shields, Broadbent said:

“I think we probably created three, four clear cut chances that we didn’t take, didn’t capitalise. And when the momentum was in our favour we didn’t do enough to capitalise on those moments.

On the flip side we have probably given them two goals as well, two really soft goals to come in at half time two nil down.

First half was a period we should’ve come in a little bit more positive but when you come to South Shields and you don’t take them chances they are going to let you suffer.”

Opposition Facts

South Shields Adelaide Athletic’s’ best FA Cup run was in 1926–27, when the original Football League club reached the quarter-finals before losing to Swansea Town in front of a crowd of 24,000. They became Gateshead AFC in 1930.

They also set a club record in the FA Cup with a 13–0 victory over Radcliffe Colliery Welfare in 1947, with 10 goals scored by Chris Marron which is the highest-scoring FA Cup match in their history.

The current South Shields FC’s best FA Cup run was in 1969–70, reaching the third round and facing Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

Last season, in the FA Cup, they were eliminated in the first round by League Two side Shrewsbury Town, losing 3-1.

They advanced to this round with a convincing 7-0 victory over Witton Town.

In 2017, they won the FA Vase, defeating Cleethorpes Town 4-0 in the final with goals from Carl Finnigan, Morse, and a brace from David Foley.

In the FA Trophy, their best performance last season saw them reach the third round.

The away team includes former Buxton player Ethan Mann. Mann played 30 games in the National League North for The Bucks on loan before transferring to South Shields this summer from Stockport County.

One To Watch: Khanya Leshabela

The 27-year-old South African midfielder Leshabela joined The Mariners in the summer.

While at Leicester City, he received a Premier League appearance in a 5-0 victory under Brendan Rodgers.

He also had loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra.

Later, he played six months in South Africa for Cape Town City before returning to the UK to play for Enfield Town.
