A second straight 4–0 defeat on the road saw Buxton undone by South Shields at the Wolf Competitions Stadium.
Buxton began on the front foot, creating the first opening inside five minutes. Josh Pescatore’s corner picked out Oliver Tipton at the back post, but his header was comfortably held by the South Shields keeper.
South Shields responded with a direct ball over the top from Joe Emery that found Cerwyn Scott. His first touch was clean, but Kieran Burton stood firm and denied him a clear sight of goal.
Pressure down the left soon brought another South Shields chance. Thakgalo Leshabela released Sean McGurk, whose driven cross was taken cleanly by Logan Stretch.
A defensive mistake from South Shields in the 18th minute gifted Tony Weston a run through on goal. His low strike was blocked by the onrushing Jasper Shiek, keeping the game level.
Crosses from wide areas continued to trouble the hosts. Ashton Mee reached the byline and found Weston with a clipped ball, but the forward’s header lacked power and dropped straight into the keeper’s gloves.
The breakthrough for South Shields arrived in the 24th minute. A mix‑up at the back allowed Paul Blackett to challenge for possession, roll the ball into Scott’s path and watch him round the keeper before finishing into an empty net for 1–0.
Buxton appealed for a penalty shortly after when a Pescatore effort was blocked inside the area, but the referee waved away the shouts.
Midfield pressure from Sisa Tuntulwana won the ball high up the pitch and fed Mee, though the midfielder couldn’t get a shot away before the defence cleared their lines.
Another combination between Mee and Kian Scales almost produced an opening, but Scales went to ground before he could get his effort away.
Just before half‑time South Shields doubled their lead. Scott’s cross found Blackett, whose looping header crept over the line with the assistant confirming the goal.
Early second‑half action again came through Scott, who burst down the right and picked out Blackett. This time the forward’s effort drifted wide of the target.
The third goal arrived on the hour. Blackett’s strike was cleared off the line by Guilherme Siqueira , only for Sean McGurk to smash home the rebound.
Buxton pushed back and came close when Kieran Burton met a Johnny Johnston free kick with a strong header that flew narrowly wide.
Johnston threatened again moments later, driving into the box and forcing a sharp save at the near post.
A fourth goal for the Mariners came in the 71st minute. Substitute Caden Kelly cut inside and curled a precise finish into the far bottom corner.
Late pressure from Buxton almost produced a consolation when Johnston’s cross flashed across goal, but Owen Devonport couldn’t quite connect.
Attention now turns to next week, where Buxton have the chance for immediate revenge as they host South Shields at the Silverlands in the FA Cup.
