Josh Shaw received a second yellow card just before the break but after the break Devlan Moses’ goal was enough to put them into the next round.
Buxton will now play South Shields at home in the third qualifying round on Saturday 3rd October.

Reflecting on the game against Ashton United, Broadbent said:
“I don’t think we got away with one. I thought our levels weren’t what they were or what they should be in the first half.
Something we have spoken about as a group this week, and with a young group, it’s always challenging to ensure the levels are where they should be.
I think the second half we were good for it. I think tactically, with ten men, we were good. We still created chances with ten men, we still had energy, and we were still getting into forward positions.
Levels in the first half are not good enough, and we know that, but winning a game with ten men in the second half is a testament to the group.

Originally founded in 1888 as South Shields Adelaide Athletic, the club later reformed in 1974 as South Shields FC.

Since arriving from Carlisle United in 2025, Scott has been a key attacking presence for The Mariners. A northern lad born in Hexham, he stands at 5ft 10 and is comfortable playing anywhere across the front line.
Previously, he enjoyed success with both Gateshead and Notts County, winning promotion at each club. His spell at Notts County included a standout moment when he scored the decisive penalty against Chesterfield to send The Magpies back into the Football League.
Individually, he earned recognition in the 2021–22 campaign by featuring in the National League North Team of the Year and collecting a Player of the Month award in March 2022.
