Chesterfield came from behind to get a win against Port Vale in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy.
The Spireites had to come from behind after Onel Hernández put Port Vale in front just before half-time.
Hernández broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into the interval.
Chesterfield continued to push for an equaliser after the break and were rewarded in the 69th minute when Louie Marsh found the net to bring the Spireites level.
Neither side could find a winning goal during the remainder of normal time, sending the tie to a penalty shootout.
Chesterfield held their nerve from the spot, eventually winning the shootout 4-3.
The result sees the Spireites continue their EFL Trophy campaign after a hard-fought contest in which they showed plenty of character to recover from Hernández’s first-half opener.
