Buxton earned their place in the next round of the FA Cup despite playing the entire of the second half with ten men.
The Bucks began brightly, with Max Woltman driving down the left, beating his man and forcing Tommy Taylor to gather his early cross.
Pressure continued to build when Sisa Tuntulwana latched onto Woltman’s clever ball over the top, heading it past Taylor before firing his follow‑up effort over the bar.
Moments later, Josh Shaw became the first name in the referee’s book after a foul on former Buck Alex Byrne down the right.
Buxton thought they had taken the lead in the 24th minute. Guillaume Siqueira delivered a superb cross into the area, Devlan Moses met it cleanly and his strike hit the net, but the assistant’s flag was already raised for offside.
Their first real opening came when Tuntulwana slipped Kian Scales through on goal, only for Taylor to make a strong save. The keeper then required treatment but was able to continue.
Siqueira remained lively, sending a powerful effort narrowly over the bar before linking with Weston, whose lay‑off created another chance that also cleared the woodwork.
The home side were denied again when Woltman beat Taylor and finished confidently, but another offside call halted celebrations.
Their challenge then increased when Shaw received a second yellow for pulling back an Ashton United player on the counter.
At the break Jordan Boradbent made a change with Will Trueman coming on for Tony Weston.
Remarkably, the ten men made the perfect start to the second half. Moses found space centrally, stepped onto the ball and drilled a stunning 25‑yard strike into the far corner to give Buxton a 1–0 lead.
As the away side looked to get back in the game Harry Flowers met a dropping ball on the volley, sending it narrowly wide.
Ashton pushed hard late on, with Kurt Willoughby’s 30‑yard free kick tipped onto the post by Logan Stretch before Buxton cleared the danger.
A threatening cross then flashed across the box, just missing the feet of Darius Osei.
Tom Denton’s introduction provided pressure for Ashton United the closing stages, with the tall forward becoming the target for long balls and using his aerial presence to flick on.
A corner ball bounced in the area in added time and Trueman out his body on the line to stop a late equaliser.
And Buxton held on despite the late pressure, securing their place in the next round, with Monday bringing confirmation of their opponents.
