Reflecting on the game against Brackley Town, Broadbent said:
“Really good result, really good performance. I think a really good reaction from Saturday’s result. The boys deserved it.
When we spoke after the game on Saturday, we didn’t mention the result really in training building up to this game, and the boys responded outstandingly. I’m really proud of them.”
Opposition Facts
Founded in 2010 following the liquidation of Chester City, the new club entered Division One North of the Northern Premier League. They won that division in the 2012–13 season with a remarkable 107 points.
Chester FC have yet to progress beyond the First Round Proper of the FA Cup since their re‑formation in 2010. Their strongest modern campaigns came in 2014–15 and 2023–24. The deeper FA Cup history belongs to the former Chester City side, who reached the Fourth Round several times including 1938–39, 1951–52, 1976–77, 1979–80 and 1986–87.
In the FA Trophy, Chester City reached the semi finals in the 2000–01 season. Since reforming, Chester FC’s best run is the Second Round Proper in 2011–12, achieved while competing in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Nicknamed The Seals 🦭, they play at the Deva Stadium which holds more than 5400 supporters with around 4500 seated. The stadium sits directly on the border between Wales and England.
The home side are led by Phil Parkinson who arrived in the summer after Calum McIntyre’s departure. Parkinson began his managerial career at Nantwich Town where he reached the FA Trophy semi finals. He then spent eight years at Altrincham, earning promotion to the National League North and winning the playoffs in 2020. After leaving in October 2025 he also managed Fleetwood Town’s under 21s.
Last season they finished seventh in the National League North and were knocked out of the playoffs by Macclesfield.
This season their home kit is blue and white stripes and their away kit is yellow and black stripes.
On the form guide over the last five games they sit nineteenth with five points.
Most recently they lost 1–0 to Merthyr Town with Leeds Lucas scoring the only goal at the Deva Stadium.
Earlier this week they signed Ruben Butt on loan from Salford City until January. He is the son of former professional midfielder Nicky Butt.
One To Watch: Declan Weeks
Chester’s captain Weeks has been with the club since 2020. Before joining he spent three seasons with Kidderminster Harriers making 93 appearances with six goals and 18 assists. He also represented Wales at youth level and came through the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy.
Head to Head
In the last five meetings Buxton have won once while Chester have won four times.
The most recent meeting was in February 2026 when Kurt Willoughby was sent off after two minutes and Chester won 1–0.
At Buxton last time out Chester also won 2–1 with Jack Bainbridge scoring twice either side of a Tai Sodje goal.
