Ched Evans scores as Chesterfield are sunk again by Fleetwood

Ched Evans scored a stunning goal against one of his former clubs as Fleetwood Town began their season with a 1-0 victory at Chesterfield.

The result made it a frustrating afternoon for the Spireites, who were also beaten by Fleetwood in the Carabao Cup last week.

Fleetwood created the better chances early on, with Evans shooting narrowly wide from close range before Will Davies forced Chesterfield goalkeeper Ryan Boot into action.

The visitors took the lead after 35 minutes in spectacular fashion.

Evans spotted Boot off his line and produced an audacious effort from around 30 yards, sending a perfectly judged lob over the Chesterfield goalkeeper and into the net.

Chesterfield had chances to respond before half-time, with Lee Bonis firing a low effort wide before heading off target from a promising position.

Fleetwood continued to threaten after the break, with Lewis McCann forcing another save from Boot after a strong run at the Chesterfield defence.

The Spireites also went close to an equaliser, with Jay Lynch making a smart save to deny Fraser Bryden.

Chesterfield enjoyed plenty of possession as they searched for a way back into the game, but Fleetwood defended resolutely to secure all three points.

The defeat means Chesterfield begin the campaign with another loss to Fleetwood in the space of a week.
