Rail passengers across the East Midlands are being urged to check their journeys before travelling during two weekends in August because of planned engineering works.
Network Rail says services will be affected on Saturday and Sunday, with further disruption expected on 22 and 23 August.
A £5.46 million programme of improvements will include the renewal of 495 metres of drainage systems at Alfreton, along with work on points at Blackwell South and Trowell junctions.
Northern will operate replacement buses between Sheffield and Nottingham, while East Midlands Railway will run an amended timetable on its Liverpool Lime Street to Norwich service.
EMR trains will not stop at Ilkeston, Langley Mill or Alfreton, while services to Sheffield will also be significantly reduced.
Passengers travelling to or from those three stations will be able to use Northern’s replacement buses at no extra cost, according to Network Rail.
Network Rail operations director Eric Larocque apologised to passengers affected by the work, saying the improvements would help make the railway more reliable for both passenger and freight services across the East Midlands.
The latest works follow further engineering activity at Alfreton Tunnel on 8 and 9 August, when almost half a kilometre of track was renewed.
Engineers replaced ageing track components during that work, using specialist safety equipment including mobile ventilation systems.
Passengers are advised to check before travelling and allow extra time for their journeys during the August engineering works.
