Buxton continued their pre-season preparations with a convincing 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe United, with goals from Connor Kirby and Finn Cousin-Dawson securing the win.
The Bucks created the first opening of the match when Connor Kirby latched onto a knockdown before seeing his effort deflected behind for the first corner of the game.
The home side made a bright start, with Sammy Robinson delivering a dangerous ball into the box which found Ashton Mee, but the midfielder could only guide his header over the crossbar.
Unfortunately, that proved to be Robinson’s final contribution of the afternoon as he was forced off through injury, with a Trialist replacing him in the 14th minute.
Making an instant impact, the substitute Trialist almost created an opportunity after heading Will Trueman’s cross down into the path of Owen Devonport, but the forward couldn’t keep his effort below the bar.
Mee was next to threaten, twisting and turning past the Scunthorpe defence before striking the post with a powerful effort.
Just six minutes later, The Bucks hit the woodwork again, with a Trialist’s corner delivery travelling all the way through and crashing against the post.
Continuing to apply pressure, Kian Scales collected the ball in midfield, drove forward and unleashed a strike that went narrowly wide of the target.
The pressure finally told in the 31st minute when Buxton opened the scoring. Mee’s low effort was saved by the goalkeeper, but Kirby was quickest to react and converted the rebound.
Shortly after, Trialist C almost doubled the advantage when he was played through by Logan Stretch, but his effort was denied by the onrushing goalkeeper.
Ten minutes after the restart, Buxton were left frustrated when Mee’s cross struck the hand of a Scunthorpe defender inside the penalty area, but the referee waved away the appeals.
From the resulting corner, The Bucks went close once again as Sisa Tuntulwana’s header was kept out by the goalkeeper after another effort struck the woodwork.
Buxton continued to search for a second goal, with Scales winning possession back before releasing Johnny Johnston down the wing, whose cross found Kirby one-on-one, but the captain couldn’t find the finish.
The home side eventually doubled their lead in the 73rd minute when Johnston’s deep free-kick from 30 yards found Cousin-Dawson, who fired home to make it 2-0.
Closing stages saw Tuntulwana go closest to adding another goal, breaking through on goal from a tight angle, but he was denied by the advancing goalkeeper.
Buxton now turn their attention to their next pre-season fixture as they travel south to face Dagenham & Redbridge this weekend.
