Report by Local Democracy Reporter – Jon Cooper Derbyshire’s ten main councils have insisted they are in a ‘strong position’ to respond to the Government’s decision to pause sweeping Local Government Reorganisation plans for the county. Assaults, prescription fraud and sleeping on duty are among the reasons a number of Derbyshire doctors and nurses have been punished by watchdogs in the past year. Records from the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service and Nursing and Midwifery Council show a number of Derbyshire health professionals have had their right to practice either erased or suspended. Listed chronologically below are summaries of the cases from the past 12 months, with Nursing and Midwifery records only available to June this year. Jade Robertson – July 2026 A 12-month suspension order and 18-month interim suspension order were handed out to the Derby adult nurse via the Nursing and Midwifery Council in July this year. The hearing was held entirely in private but was categorised as “lack of competence/health” through which she was found to be “impaired”. Olanma Davidson – July 2026 The Nursing and Midwifery Council handed the Chesterfield adult nurse a 12-month suspension for a flurry of incidents. This included turning off the lights when residents were still awake and walking around, sleeping while on duty and not leaving the nurses’ office for four hours. A report shows Ms Davidson had found a resident lying on the floor but did not assess or examine them, did not obtain medical assistance such as pulling the emergency bell, and did not ask the resident if it was ok to lift them. It also shows Davidson did not clean up the resident as soon as possible following them having been incontinent, failed to record the unwitnessed fall and failed to mention it to colleagues. The panel found a sustained period of poor record keeping and said Ms Davidson had a risk of repetition and was not satisfactorily remediated. Deepu Alkere Nanjundaswamy – June 2026 The now former Chesterfield Royal Hospital doctor had his medical licence “erased” in June this year following a range of incidents including drinking most of a bottle of wine while on an A&E shift and driving while drunk. Meanwhile, Alkere Nanjundaswamy is currently wanted by the police after allegedly fleeing the country ahead of a Sheffield Magistrates’ Court hearing for an assault charge. This was in connection with an incident at Chesterfield railway station, in which a woman was allegedly slapped in the face. This was found to amount to serious professional misconduct by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, which said he presented a “high risk to public protection”. Keith Wolverson – April 2026 The now former Derby doctor had his medical licence “erased” in April this year after failing to maintain contact with regulators while suspended from practicising for major shortfalls. A Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing found Mr Wolverson was “deskilled” after not practicising since 2022 and that he “lacked insight and any meaningful motivation to remediate”. Mr Wolverson was suspended for nine months in 2022, while a locum at Derby Urgent Care Centre, after repeated inappropriate comments about the English language skills of several patients and repeatedly asking a woman to remove her veil – worn for religious purposes. A 2024 tribunal found that Mr Wolverson had worked during his nine-month suspension and was suspended for a further 12 months. After this, an October 2025 tribunal found Mr Wolverson had completely disengaged from the process and demonstrated an “unwillingness to remediate”, leading to a further six-month suspension. Jan Mozny – October 2025 Dr Mozny, a locum consultant in medical oncology at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, was handed a 12-month suspension in October 2025. It had been found that on six occasions Dr Mozny failed to dictate correspondence in a timely manner, with no notes provided for one patient who was prescribed chemotherapy. One patient was prescribed drugs and therapies which are not licensed for the type of carcinoma they had on their lung. A further patient did not have a documented clinical encounter and they were not informed of scan test results. These failures were found to be “serious and had potentially put patients at a risk of harm” with staff “disadvantaged in carrying out treatments without medical background information”. He was suspended for nine months in 2023 for these issues, with lack of remediation leading to further nine months and year-long suspensions in two 2024 review hearings. Dr Mozny is said to be applying for voluntary erasure of his medical licence, a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service report shows. Praveen Alla – October 2025 In October last year the Bolsover doctor was handed an 18-month period of restrictive conditions controlling their working capacity following a “conviction or caution for a criminal offence”. A Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service report details that in 2018 Dr Alla had been confronted by colleagues at the Welbeck Road Health Centre in Bolsover over concerns about prescriptions. It was alleged that Dr Alla had “misdirected prescriptions” and that his response to colleagues was “dishonest”. At a subsequent Northern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court hearing in 2020, Dr Alla was convicted of fraud by abuse of position and sentenced to a year in prison, suspended for two years, alongside rehabilitation. Dr Alla had ordered heroin prescriptions on more than 60 occasions using the names of dead and terminally ill patients for personal use, to a value of £2,200. The tribunal service writes Dr Alla was impaired due to the conviction but had shown “genuine remorse”. In 2023, following the expiration of the suspended sentence, there remained concerns about the risk of similar fraudulent actions, leading to a further four-month suspension, followed by further six-month, nine-month, and second nine-month suspensions. Dr Alla had said in a statement to the 2025 hearing: “‘The recognition of the harm I caused to my patients, my colleagues, my loved ones, and to the medical profession that I care for so deeply is something that weighs heavily on me. That guilt and regret remain with me, and I hope they continue serving as a constant reminder… and work in alignment with my values and return to the work I love.”
