Woodville to Swadlincote regeneration route on track for completion

Work to build a new road linking Woodville and Swadlincote will be completed by our highways team following the administration of a contractor.

We appointed Nottinghamshire firm North Midland Construction North Ltd to build the road which only had around 4 weeks of work outstanding before they entered administration earlier this month.

The road will remain closed until we have completed the remaining work.

The £13.4 million project has been designed to unlock land for redevelopment along the route, opening up opportunities for new housing and business development.

Measuring almost a mile in length, the single-carriageway road will also ease congestion on existing roads in the area, particularly Clock Island in Woodville where the A511 joins the A514.

Our Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Environment Councillor Carolyn Renwick said:

“It’s sad to hear that North Midland Construction North Ltd has entered administration and we’d like to thank them for their work on the project to date.

“We’re pleased we’re able to step in and complete the project which will pave the way for regeneration in South Derbyshire and open up opportunities for new housing and business development.

“There will be a slight delay in work re-starting due to the administration process, but we hope to have the project completed as soon as possible.”

The road is being funded jointly by us contributing £7 million and D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, which has earmarked £6.4 million from its Local Growth Fund.
