A Ford Transit van used to fly tip waste near Bondhay Lane, Whitwell was seized by North East Derbyshire District Council Enforcement Officers in Killamarsh.
The incident was witnessed by members of the public who were able to provide evidence to investigating officers including the vehicle registration.
A check with the DVLA revealed the van to be registered at an address on Boiley Lane, Killamarsh. On the 26th October 2021 officers attended the property with the police and located the vehicle.
The van was seized under section 34b of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the vehicle was held for 15 days and as it was unclaimed, became the property of the council.
The vehicle was crushed by the authority to act as a warning to anyone who considers fly tipping in the districts of Bolsover or North East Derbyshire.
North East Derbyshire District Council Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Charlotte Cupit said, “We have a zero tolerance policy on fly tipping and we will take full action against those involved where possible.”
“We are working on further preventative measures to reduce and deter fly-tipping and we encourage all members of the public to be vigilant and report anyone they see fly tipping as we have a dedicated enforcement team to deal with waste crime.”
Investigations are ongoing in relation to those responsible.
