About the Show
From an early age I had a bizarre fascination with music and radio. My Mam used to tell stories of me scooting around in my baby walker, and then turning on the hi-fi full blast. It didn’t end there, I remember my dad giving me an old Bush Radiogram, I only had seven records, but I’d play them and talking in-between them regardless. I’ve always loved the connection radio gives people, whether it’s the voice that comes out of the speaker, or a song that you love that brings back good memories every time you hear it.
Fast forward to the late nineties, I was privileged enough to be a part of the launch team for Chesterfield’s first commercial radio station, Peak 107. Here’s a little known fact for the Anoraks out there. When Peak was ready to begin its test transmissions, I was tasked to drive up to a certain music shop at the end of Newbold Road, and get a cable made up. When I got back down to Foxwood Road, I plugged a minidisc player into the transmitter, with Dave Kilner saying “Go on then, press it”, in an excited voice, and press play I did. So technically, I unofficially launched the station.
I’m totally going off on a tangent, I do that often, but you’ll discover that when you join me on North Derbyshire Radio. Oh and I’m a local lad too. I grew up in Grassmoor, went to school in North Wingfield, and when I had a real job I worked in Matlock. Being on the radio isn’t really a job, because it’s so much fun! But don’t tell the boss.
When I’m not playing songs on North Derbyshire Radio and chatting with you, I’m usually watching bad cheesy B Movies, and I’m still into disco, which really annoys my wife and kids. That’s down to my formative years being the seventies.
