Safety first as CCTV to be introduced to taxi’s licensed in North East Derbyshire

North East Derbyshire District Council has approved plans to introduce cctv into all taxi’s licensed in the district to safeguard passengers and drivers.

The move means the authority will be one of the first in Derbyshire to adopt the new technology and will now take steps to identify suitable systems to be installed which will help improve the safety for those operating taxis and members of the public who enter the licensed taxis.

North East Derbyshire District Council Cabinet Member Cllr Mark Foster said, “The addition of cctv into taxis is a fantastic move for our residents and drivers. The safety of passengers and drivers is paramount and this new inclusion will help keep our communities safe”.

“We are proud to be one of the first authorities in Derbyshire to introduce these measures and we will be working closely with neighbouring authorities to try and get these measures introduced in other neighbouring authorities”.

Taxi owners will be advised in due course of the available systems and given sufficient notice of the date they must have them installed by.
