The work of Derbyshire County Council rights of way team, and investment in improvements in footpaths across the county has been praised by the Peak District Local Access Forum.
The group recently met up with Council Leader, Councillor Barry Lewis and officers from the rights of way team, at the site of a recently improved footpath.
We spend around £1 million a year on maintaining and improving footpaths and bridleways across Derbyshire, and recently improved the footpath pictured, which is near Bonsall in the Derbyshire Dales.
The Peak District Local Access Forum advises us and the National Park Authority on access improvements to the countryside of the Peak District. Its members bring experience of a broad range of interests including walking, cycling, horse riding, farming, land management, conservation, and local business.
Charlotte Gilbert, the group’s vice chair said:
“We appreciate all the work and investment that Derbyshire County Council put into the public rights of way network, which is one of the crown jewels of Derbyshire.
“The investment from the council makes a real difference that will benefit Derbyshire residents and visitors alike for many decades.”
Councillor Barry Lewis said:
“It was wonderful to meet with members of the access forum and look at one of our recently completed jobs.
“We know how important a well-maintained network of footpaths is for those who live, work and visit our county, and the work we carry out aims to keep them all fit for purpose.”
