Alfreton Town exited the FA Cup at the first-round stage after a 5-1 defeat to Notts County at Meadow Lane.
Two strikes each from Alassana Jatta and Jevani Brown following a long-range effort from Matty Plant saw the League Two hosts come back from an early Ofton goal to knock the National League North side out of the competition.
Liam Waldock had opened the scoring for Alfreton in the 14th minute, calmly slotting the ball home after Jake Day’s strike deflected into his path inside the box.
However, just two minutes later the hosts equalised through Platt. His effort from 25-yards skidded off the surface, deceiving George Willis in the Ofton goal.
Nevertheless, the non-league side showed great determination to keep going throughout the first half and had more chances. Jed Abbey fired across the six-yard box, waiting for the touch that never came.
But the second-half proved to be a different story, with Notts County immediately taking control and showing their quality.
Jatta made it 2-1 just after half-time, turning into an empty net after great work from Brown on the left, before the midfielder found his striking teammate once again in the 62nd minute, giving Jatta the chance to make it three.
Alfreton showed some determination to get themselves back into the game after that third, but once again the hosts’ quality prevailed, and Brown converted a spot-kick to make it four.
The Magpies did not let up, adding a fifth through the player of the match Brown, to guarantee their place in the next round.
Billy Heath’s side have so much to be proud of from this run, and they will now turn their focus to Tuesday evening, as they travel to Peterborough Sports in the National League North.
