North East Derbyshire District Council is delighted to support Emergency Services Day, which takes place on 9 September.

Also known as 999 Day, the national event gives people the chance to show their support for our selfless NHS and emergency services heroes.

As part of the day, a two minutes silence will take place at 9am to remember all who have been killed as a result of their service to our nation, which council staff will be taking part in, and visitors to our buildings will also be asked to observe.

We will also be raising the 999 Day flag on the day, outside our main offices on Mill Lane, Wingerworth.

North East Derbyshire District Council Leader, Cllr Alex Dale, said: “We are delighted to support this event, to recognise all those who do so much for our communities, both here in North East Derbyshire and across the country.

“I’d encourage everyone to pause for thought at 9am on 9 September.”

Council Chairman, Cllr Martin Thacker MBE, said: “This is our chance to give thanks to all those who work and volunteer tirelessly across the NHS and emergency services, and also remember those who have sadly lost their lives in the line of duty.

“We owe them so much for all they do to keep us healthy and safe, and remembering them on this special day is the very least we can do.”

Cllr Thacker will also be meeting with ambulance staff to hear first-hand about their experiences when responding to 999 calls.

  • More information about Emergency Services Day, including all the aims of the day, can be found on the website 999Day.org.uk
