Man charged following serious assault in Chesterfield

A man is in hospital with serious injuries following reports of an assault in Chesterfield town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning (7 August).

The incident happened around 12.50am, and officers were alerted to a man who had been found injured on Church Way.

A 29-year-old man was arrested very shortly after the incident and has been charged with attempted murder.

Melusi Madaweni, of Chester Street, Chesterfield, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court this morning (Monday 8 August) and has been remanded into prison custody.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses or anyone who may have any information which could help with their enquiries.
