Fifty homes evacuated after large fire in Creswell.

Police had to evacuate about 50 homes after a major incident was declared due to a fire involving three fields.

Dozens of firefighters are battling the large blaze which started in the model village area of Creswell, North Derbyshire.

Officers told residents to keep their doors and windows closed while the fire was dealt with.

Bolsover and Clowne Police asked the public not to access the area while fire crews were tackling the blaze.

A total of 12 crews were called to the fire and several roads were closed as a result.

Families that had to leave their homes have now been allowed back into their properties and a major investigation has begun into what caused the massive blaze.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service group manager Darren Perrott, said: “The job here involved Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Notts Fire and Rescue, the East Midlands Ambulance Service, police and other local partners.

“We have had a significant fire that involved 16 appliances and some of our specialist appliances including water carrier and command support vehicles. We’re scaling back the incident.

“At 3.15pm we were called to a large standing crop fire. The crews have worked tirelessly over the last couple of hours to extinguish that fire.

“At the height of it we have to evacuate premises and their was a major incident declared Derbyshire Fire due to the fire spread. We’re now scaling the incident back.”
