We can now reveal the people and groups across the county who have been successfully nominated to receive a Derbyshire Beacon of Hope award.
More than 120 groups and individuals across the county, and dozens more in the city, are receiving one of the prestigious awards, launched earlier this year by Derbyshire’s Lord Lieutenant Elizabeth Fothergill and the High Sheriff for 2020-21 Tony Walker.
The awards were created to recognise the efforts of groups and individuals who have gone above and beyond and worked tirelessly and selflessly to help and support others during the coronavirus pandemic.
The current High Sheriff of Derbyshire Louise Potter, and Tony Walker, Elizabeth Fothergill and a number of their deputies, and also county council Cabinet and Cabinet Support members and county council Civic Chairman Councillor Jean Wharmby have been busy in recent weeks making award presentations or arranging to make them in the near future.
Derbyshire County Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis recently presented an award at County Hall, Matlock, to representatives from the Derbyshire Emergency Volunteers at County Hall.
Councillor Lewis said:
“We are delighted to be part of these awards which recognise the work of individuals and groups that have worked tirelessly to keep our communities safe during the pandemic.
“There have been so many examples of the incredible efforts that people and organisations have gone to across Derbyshire to support communities, protect the vulnerable and keep businesses moving.
“I am glad to have been able to personally thank just some of the people involved in the tremendous, countywide response that has helped to pull us all through this very difficult time.”
