Buxton is getting ready to welcome the crowds this Saturday (4 December) when Buxton FC plays in the FA Cup’s second round and the town welcomes shoppers and socialisers enjoying the pre-Christmas season.
It’s set to be busier than ever, with the usual weekly outdoor market and events at the Pavilions Gardens also taking place, so High Peak Borough Council is advising people to plan ahead and think about how they will travel to and from the town centre.
There is limited car parking available at the ground so demand for parking is expected to be extremely high. Heavy traffic is expected on the roads into and out of Buxton so those heading to Silverlands or coming to enjoying the match day atmosphere are being asked to arrive in good time for the 12.45pm kick off.
Council Leader, Councillor Anthony Mckeown, said: “We’re all wishing Buxton FC good luck for their big game with Morecambe on Saturday. It’s a fantastic achievement to reach the second round and we’re all hoping for another win for the Bucks this weekend.
“We expect that there will be plenty of people in town either heading to Silverlands or coming in to Buxton to watch the match on television and enjoy the magic of the Cup atmosphere, so it’s likely to be a very busy day.
“In addition to the match, the pre-Christmas period is now in full swing and people will also be browsing the shops, markets and events in the town as well as meeting up to socialise.
“Parking will be in high demand and we’re expecting our car parks to be full. So our strong advice is to plan ahead and, if you can, to take public transport or walk into town on Saturday if at all possible.
“If you need to park on-street, please be considerate to local residents and make sure you’re not blocking access or the main roads into the town.
“We want everyone to have a good time and making alternative arrangements now will help ensure people can enjoy all the activities on offer.”
