The A5004 at Long Hill has been closed for some time to allow a landslip to be fixed. The road will reopen under traffic lights on Monday 3 October after some delays during this complicated job.
There is also work taking place on the A6 north of Buxton to put in a new roundabout for High Peak Borough Council.
Currently, this work is taking place at the side of the road so that the A6 remains fully open. But the contractors will need to work on the carriageway and the council have agreed they can work under traffic lights from Monday 26 September until the end of the year.
There will be a dedicated member of staff onsite from 7am to 7pm 7 days a week, to monitor traffic and adjust the lights accordingly to minimise the queues. The priority is to keep the traffic moving north so that delays are minimised in Buxton.
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal, said:
“We have been working hard to coordinate these jobs, but there will be a small overlap while the A5004 is closed, and the A6 will have traffic lights on.
“There will be a dedicated member of the team on the A6 monitoring the traffic flow from 7am to 7pm every day so that we can do all we can to keep the traffic moving northwards so that the delays to the middle of Buxton are minimised as much as possible.
“It is very difficult to carry out work on our network in the northwest of the county as the reality is that we have few roads, but we hope that what we have planned will cause as little disruption to the traveling public as possible, but we would ask that people allow more time for their journeys, especially at peak times.”
