Sleetmoor United FC will soon get a new full size floodlit 3G football pitch at the club’s site in Swanwick thanks to a partnership with Derbyshire County Council.
The football club, in its various forms, has leased the land from us since the mid 1970s, and it has applied, on behalf of the partnership, for the funding required to build an all-weather floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch and a toilet block.
Work started on-site on 23 October 2021 and the new facilities are expected to be completed by April 2022.
The works are expected to cost around £796,000 and are supported by a grant awarded by the Football Foundation.
Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Budget, Councillor Simon Spencer, said:
“We are delighted to be able to work with Sleetmoor United to develop their facilities.
“An all-weather floodlit pitch will make a real difference both to the club and all the other groups in the Alfreton area who use the grounds.
“It will also enable them to look at offering more community training for women and older local people and local schools.”

“Sleetmoor United are very pleased to be working in partnership with Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation and Derbyshire County Council to build the 3G all weather pitch on our Sleetmoor Lane site.
“The club are extremely grateful to the Premier League, The FA and government’s Football Foundation for the grant awarded.
“The club contribution of £150,000 is the cumulation of nearly 10 years of fundraising and hard work by many past and present members of the club.
“In 2018 with the help of Derbyshire FA, 3 clubs, ADASC FC, GFC Alfreton and Leabrooks Junior FC merged to form Sleetmoor United to enable this project to come to fruition.
“The improved facilities will not only benefit the current and future Sleetmoor United grassroots football teams but also other local groups and the wider community.”
