A North Derbyshire mum is asking for our help to pay for medicine to treat a rare form of breast cancer.
Rachael Holmes, who’s 51 from Clowne, has already had a double mastectomy for an aggressive form of ‘triple-negative breast cancer’, but the cancer has returned and she’s been told it will cost her her life.
She’s now trying to raise £60,000 for a treatment called ‘Olaparib1’ that is used successfully in other parts of the world, in the private sector here in the UK, and on the NHS in ‘primary cases’, but is still going through NHS red tape to assess its value for money for ‘secondary cases’ like Rachael’s.
As well as holding fundraisers locally and getting help from family and friends, Rachael is hoping people will donate to a GoFundMe page to fund her treatment. Click here for Rachael’s Fund Link
Rachael spoke to North Derbyshire Radio’s Senior News Editor Matt Hewitt, and began by explaining what the drug ‘Olaparib1’ does.
