Ditch the car and head to the Heights!

One of the famous cable cars at the Heights of Abraham has had a temporary facelift, and now carries the branding for trentbarton’s the sixes bus service, which carries passengers to the gates of Derbyshire’s award-winning tourist attraction from Derby, Belper, Bakewell and bus stops in between.

The branding is a part of a summer promotion to draw attention to the fact that visitors by bus and rail can receive a 20% discount on cable car tickets by showing their transport tickets when they arrive. The 20% discount also applies to online cable car tickets purchased in advance.

Tom Morgan, Managing Director at trentbarton said: “We are thrilled to be working alongside the Heights of Abraham to promote bus travel. Our scenic sixes will take you to the heart of the Peak District and right to the door of the Heights of Abraham. Visitors will be able to enjoy the brightly coloured the sixes cable car over the next 5 weeks and we hope they enjoy the ride.”

The Heights has also launched a new webpage that features more information about travel discounts along with a free to enter competition to win family cable car passes and £50 top ups for the popular trentbarton mango app : www.heightsofabraham.com/sixes

Heights of Abraham Director, Rupert Pugh (PICTURED), greeted trentbarton representative Kurt Cappello, Operations Manager, at the top station once the branding was applied. Kurt said “I haven’t been on the cable cars for a long time, and so couldn’t remember what to expect, but I enjoyed the ride to the top, and was very impressed with the views across the valley. I’m looking forward to bringing my own family for a day out very soon.”

the sixes bus stop is located opposite the cable car base station on the main road, and Rupert Pugh hopes that the promotion will encourage more people to leave their cars at home and take the bus to Matlock Bath. He said:  “Our 20% cable car discount is intended to encourage more people to take public transport trips to the Heights. We recognise that car parking spaces can be at a premium in Matlock Bath at certain times, and believe that the sixes bus offers a relaxed way to get in and out of town. Of course, if you travel by bus, you can also enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail when you reach the Vista restaurant at the top!”.

The Heights of Abraham is Derbyshire’s oldest tourist attraction, and first opened to the public in 1787. The 60-acre site is reached by cable cars that were installed 39 years ago. The hilltop park includes two illuminated cavern tours, one of which now features Victorian living history tour guides,  two undercover exhibitions, film theatre, two adventure playgrounds, woodland walks, sculpture and heritage trails and gardens. This year the Heights is celebrating a year of fantastic happenings with special events and live music throughout the year.
