A Chesterfield woman’s shaved her head in a show of support for her mum, ahead of Mother’s Day.
While most daughters send chocolates or flowers on Mother’s Day, Sophie Coates, 25, went one step further to show her mum how much she cares.
Maria Coates from Holymoorside was diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer just after Christmas and told she would need to undergo chemotherapy.
When Maria started to lose her hair, Sophie, alongside friend Emma Ashmore, who lost her mum to cancer a few years ago, decided to shave their heads to show their support.
They also wanted to raise money for Macmillan who have helped Maria from the moment she was diagnosed.
Maria, Sophie and their family have been supported by the team in the Macmillan Information and Support Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
By ‘Braving The Shave’, Sophie and Emma have raised more than £2,500 for the cancer support charity.
Maria and Sophie have been speaking to North Derbyshire Radio’s Senior News Editor Matt Hewitt about their experience. Maria began by telling him of the worrying news she got over the festive period.
