The council’s ‘tough’ stance on fly-tipping in North East Derbyshire is paying dividends, as it sees a large reduction on residents’ complaints.
Members of North East Derbyshire District Council’s Street Scene and Environmental Health departments have been praised for their ‘excellent work’ as the authority comes down hard on people who don’t respect the environment.
Addressed full council on Monday, January 30, leader Councillor Alex Dale commented: “We continue to have high profile prosecutions with a zero tolerance policy on littering on fly-tipping and this includes a resident in Dronfield recently being fined £300 earlier this month for fly-tipping in Eckington.
“We’ve invested in expanding our Environmental Health service and its reaping the rewards, so last year we carried out the most patrols and gave out the most fixed penalties on record and as a result fly-tipping reports are down 20 per cent compared to 2019.
“So I just want to thank the Environmental Health service in particular and the Street Scene service for all their hard work in recent years to try and really get tough on that issue.”
